Installation problem

I have nearly completed installation of the freeside software. Here are
some details of the installation

fbsd# ls -FA
butche.dsn counters.DBI:mysql:freeside/
export.DBI:mysql:freeside/
conf.DBI:mysql:freeside/ dbdef.DBI:mysql:freeside
mapsecrets

fbsd# cat mapsecrets
butche butche.dsn

fbsd# cat butche.dsn
DBI:mysql:freeside
Changed_to_protect_the_innocent (mysql_username)
Changed_to_protect_the_innocent (mysql_password)

When I attempt to connect via the web interface, I get a 500 internal
server error. Upon inspection of the log files, I find these:

failed to open log file
fopen: No such file or directory
[Mon Dec 3 23:18:29 2001] [error] [client 192.168.100.100] Premature
end of script headers: /usr/local/apache/fs/browse/part_svc.cgi

I have looked, but cannot determine if the two errors preceeding the
premature end... Error are from the webserver or the freeside scripts.
Here is what I get from the command line:
fbsd# su freeside
%setenv REMOTE_USER butche
%browse/part_svc.cgi

Any ideas? I can provide more info if you can just help me understand
what more I need to provide. A search of the archives turned up several
with similar symptoms, but none of the solutions suggested for them
worked.
