Make sure you have the `smtpmachine' configuration value set.

I hear people had problems with 1.43 but 1.15 worked okay for them.  Might
be worth trying 1.44 - if that version works for the people with 1.43
problems that would be good information for me to have.

You should tell us, specficially, what steps you did take so people don't
waste time suggesting them again.

I don't know what you mean by this, but you probably shouldn't
mix-and-match whole files from different versions unless you _really_ know
what you're doing.  It is far more likely to cause problems than to solve
them.

If none of that helps, try backporting these changes from 1.4.0 (code is
in cust_main.pm in 1.3.1, not cust_bill.pm):
