Stop month ahead billing for current or past?

Hello , is it possible to bill for the current month or past month rather than a month ahead?

The way we do billing now(and I agree its the wrong way) is lets say the clients billing date is the 1st of the month...

Well on Sept 1st or abouts then we will send out the bill for Aug and the guy has 30 days to pay, so he is not late in paying for Aug until Oct!

I know is weird... but for now I would like to sync up paper and freeside, so how would I accomplish this?
